Use the new web interface like the old webui, whithout using utorrent.com servers
Host this new web interface without having data passing by the utorrent.com servers

Commenting on this, the username can be associated with the internet IP of the router .. and then when connection is made, remote.utorrent.com can just redirect traffic directly to the IP Address .. So this creates direct connection between server (utorrent App hosted on the PC/laptop) and the client (Web Browser)

The old direct method wasn't removed.

This remote control idea from uTorrent servers was just too bald. Now everyone who wants a remote control over his uTorrent client is obliged to go through distant internet routes and it takes ages for the sites to load. In a previous direct remote control this was done in a split second. Bad idea IMHO. Maybe this was forced to uTorrent developers from a powerfull copyright industry so they can control the trafic better and gather some evidence...

I reccomend doing this, but in a dual role. allow the utorrent.com method AND the local hosted versions.
Some users are not capable of setting up a port forward in their router, to use the normal webUI, and dynamic IP/etc will trip them up. For them, funneling it through utorrent.com makes sense.

The remote UI works so good on the iPad and also has the RSS Feeds. I want that on the local WebUI!

The remote interface is better than the webui interface (being able to change the queue order is very useful) and is iPad-friendly but I have a slow internet connection so using it is frustrating. Being able to use remote via LAN would be great.

Or have an API for it.

The old webUI should still be an option, it was more complex and harder to setup but worked with peerblock for me.

It'd be nice to use both ways, for companies where some websites are blocked.

I really want this ! We have a download server for several households that downloads torrents and it uses uTorrent because I could not find another client that works as well. I had to look for others since the web UI is gone as I am now forced to give a login id and password to everyone that wants to use my download server.

I will say it is rather nice to have both options available. I keep webui up and running at all times but configured to only work on my network (I use an old desktop machine to keep up with my torrents and use webui to manage them accordingly). I like to be able to have the webui always set up to only work with my LAN PCs and turn remote on and off on the fly if I am going to be away for an extended period and possibly need remote access.

As has already been said - webUI works fine still. View this thread for instructions: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=58156
Same setup as before, enable webUI through the "advanced" settings in preferences.
