  Hm, I've found this function to be quite nice to communicate whether or not I'm going to seed something for longer than x1.50, or are the ratings different?

  I agree with Hannes Van Huyck. You also should remember that now the internet is more 'social' than it was back then... saying 'you had it and you didnt use it back then' is not fair because people back then do not act like people right now.

  I think you should consider at least making it (as pointed out) something 1) optional 2) agreed upon 3) add a block or report function to diminish spam.

  remember back in the days of Limewire (and such) ? they used to have it before (like napster) it became all legal. One could veiw other IP's files they had IF they had the option ON, and also be able to send chat requests

  There are a lot of negative comments on this one, i really stand behind the chat function! You can communicate with people of shared interests, you can ask help and so on... The downsides are explained by people as: there would be a lot of spamming of people saying useless things and so on. But come on! Please don't think in black and white! There are lot of ways tot diminish the downsides of a chat function. First of all i'm not in favor of a chat 'room,' only private chat would be much more appropriate. Second of all: people should make a proposal first to chat with you and you first have to accept it, before changing any words. Third of all: it should be optional, if you set yourself offline people can not even make proposals and vice versa. I think you can make the function as you would like, there are a lot of ways you can make it a nice way of communicating to the other side of the world! Specially with non-mainstream files. For example, i am a convicted anarchist and activist, if i share a documentary of something about political theme's, i know that the peer at the other side of the world is also interested and you can talk!

  just make some kind of toggle to turn off/on the chat function.

  Yes there must be a chat mechanism, so that we can help or ask for the help about game torrents or software torrents that are tough to figure out..
  For example: Some games torrent don't have the language description.. After downloading they become totally waste.. :(

  I remember some p2p program had this feature, it might have been morpheus or kazaa or one of those, but I'm sure I remember getting a few messages... And I turned it off. But it would be useful occasionaly.
  We're already connected literally p2p, so I would guess a chat feature would be easy to add.
