Share bandwidth with active applications
Title says it all. When I load a page with Opera, for example, utorrent limits it's bandwidth. When my page is fully loaded and I'm reading it - utorrent is back to full speed.
151 votesThis has been implemented as uTP.

download folders
well as u know we can specify where to download torrents
what would be cool if we could do this
example... i normally download to C:\downloads
but i wouldnt mind seeing this
label - videos / location is c:\downloads\videos
ie making a label would make a folder instead
or if i have an external hd
make a label called external then it would be instead of c:\downloads
it would download to my external hd
for example d:\
doesnt have to be labels..
could be groups or something
i would love to see this feature so i could then instantly download…
3,397 votesThis is in the 3.3 alpha already. Check it out. :)
It’s done with labels. Look at the preferences! -
Create plugins for uTorrent
I think it would be very good if programmers were able to write plugins for uTorrent, just the way they do for Firefox.
This way it would help uTorrent to grow very much.658 votesWe have implemented our own plugin system in the Griffin (2.2) client . Check it out at http://www.utorrent.com/labs/griffin

searching by torrent name in the torrents grid
make a searching by torrent's name in the uTorrent torrents grid.
just, when you have about 100 torrents with a similar names in the grid, searching torrent's name which i need, requires some time.
it would be nice to call this function by hitting "Ctrl + F"1,120 votesIn 3.3. If you think it’s not there, you’re doing it wrong.

support removable media - check if disk is temporarily inaccessible
SHORT: if a whole disk is temporarily inaccessible, utorrent should merely pause affected torrents, without requiring a recheck afterward.
LONG:
downloads may be stored on removable media like external usb drives or network attached storage units. If such a drive is temporarily unavailable, utorrent marks all active torrents on that disk as missing, which requires a lengthy forced recheck.
I therefore propose that if a whole drive is missing, utorrent should merely pause those torrents, without requiring a recheck.
This would not only allow users to start utorrent without always attaching all external media, it would also help tremendously if…
53 votesRecent versions of the client no longer require rechecks. You just need to start the torrent again.

More priorities for files in torrent.
When i downloading torrent and there is for example 100 files, i can set priority to first file high and second normal and all other files have low priority. So it will be downloading in order -first file, second file and all the rest.
It would be good to make more priories for files like queue for torrents.
For example i am downloading torrent with 100 files and set order of files - first whole file _01.avi, after downloaded _01.avi download 02.avi, later 03.avi and so on and not how it is now - part of every file.1,103 votes16 priorities have been added. It’s an extra option in UI Settings.
Also, there’s a feature to auto-prioritize the selected files. -
correct how data units are displayed
i.e. MB to MiB which is the correct one
1 kB = 1000 B
1 KiB = 1024 B
also transfer rate (if used!)
1 kbps = 1000 bps6 votesNo one shows MiB. It looks stupid. We follow Windows behavior, which uses binary prefixes but displays it like SI prefixes.

Multiple Labels
1 label is not enough some time. More needed if possible.
761 votesThis is implemented in the 3.0 alpha. Check it out!
We kept the old labels functionality (for move completed, etc) by allowing you to set one label as the primary. -
Only upload/download when computer is idle (screensaver style).
Use GetLastInputInfo to build an inactivity detector, stop all downloads and uploads while the computer is active. Provide an option (default off).
838 votesThis was implemented in the 2.2 stable, for those of you who are still waiting for this feature. :)

Ability to move data files to new locations
I like to group my files in specific locations, so it would be nice if we could move data files to different file/HD locations, especially if HD space is running out
409 votesThis feature has been implemented for a long time. Right click → advanced → set download location.
Or for individual files, you can right click → Relocate. -

Option to globally set a program to run on torrent completion.
Add a setting to globally set a program to run when a torrent completes. Currently this option is only available on a per-torrent basis. It isn't always possible to manually set a program for each and every torrent added, especially if you have uTorrent automatically loading torrent from a set directory.
61 votesThis was implemented in 2.2 stable. Preferences → Advanced → Run Program

Automatic Labels (based on keywords)
Using "labels" detect pre-entered keywords to automaticly apply the label coresponding.
this way when downloading series on weekley basis torrents would set their own label automaticly!

Preview files before they finish downloading
Instead of having to wait for the entire movie/album to download only to find out that it's a fake or in a language you don't understand, it should be possible to preview the files.
This means that uTorrent would create a short watchable/listenable/readable preview of what's being downloaded (from the beginning, so that it wouldn't be a spoiler) for the user to see if it's what she bargained for
116 votesThe streaming feature can do this.

Windows Home Server Addin
Make a native Windows Home Server addin/plugin allowing users to manage their torents from a Windows Home Server Console.
This is a third-party one but it is no longer being developed. A native addin or even complete new uTorrent for Home Server would be terrific.49 votesWHS is too small of a platform to support at the moment.

Rating system to warn for fake torrents
When user downloads a torrent, after testing or running it user could rate it.
when a user downloading a 'rated bad' torrent then utorrent shows a warning about bad torrent (like azurious)
uTorrent should save computer id (hardware id) when saving rates to ensure that one user rates only one time for a torrent.
37 votesWe already implemented a rating system.

Throw "Save as" dialog upon getting magnet link data
Since ordinary .torrent files have this by default, magnet links should behave like this. It is pretty desirable for persons who don't want to download wholly a torrent, but want to get just some files from it.
710 votesThis is implemented in the 2.2 stable release, for those still waiting.
-
Add unrar and move support
Add the ability to unrar and/or move files using only µTorrent on completion.
108 votesThis is done in 3.0. It will be backported to 2.2 next month.
